A South Burlington School-Based Mentoring Program
“Sparks are the hidden flames in kids that excite them and tap into their true passions.” ~ Peter L. Benson, Ph.D., The Search Institute
This beautiful artwork, created by Helena, one of our mentees, was described by her in the following way: "The artwork is happy and beaming with love and happiness that is surrounded by fireworks and a big star because they are bright." She went on to explain that this is how she feels when she meets with her mentor each week. SB Mentoring is a new school-based mentoring program for children in Chamberlin, Orchard, and Rick Marcotte Central schools in the South Burlington School District that matches caring, respectful adults in the community with a wonderfully diverse group of children in grades K through 5 for child-focused activities that are fun, engaging, and meaningful for both the adult and child. Mentors are asked to give one hour of their time per week when school is in session. SB Mentoring is a partnership between the South Burlington School District and HowardCenter.
